Okinawa - Farewell rainy season, Hello beach parties!
Attention all: Okinawa’s rainy season has come to an end, and the blue skies and warm waters are beckoning you! It’s officially “beach party” season. In Okinawa, a “beach party” refers to a BBQ on the beach. We knew this was an experience we couldn’t miss out on.
We headed to Chatan-cho’s Sunset Beach, which can’t be recommended enough!
Why Sunset Beach, you ask? Well, for starters, the ocean is less than a stone’s throw away and a great place to swim. Also, there are no rules against bringing your own food and drinks (excluding glass bottles, breakables, and dangerous items). From 2,600 yen per person, you can get a selection of food and access to a tent and BBQ gear! The staff are happy to clean your BBQ and sort your garbage for you afterwards which is a service that was greatly appreciated.
Don’t worry; your beloved pets are welcome, too!
Our BBQ tent. Food, beer, etc. can be purchased as well.
This time we brought our own beer and alcohol.
Home-made sangria!
We also brought some other food which may not be considered BBQ food per se, but was enjoyable nonetheless.
Mouth-watering tebichi (pig’s feet).
Popcorn, anyone?
We made some of Japan’s favourite instant yakisoba noodles, Peyangu, with some water on the iron griddle.
The noodles were firmer and chewier than when made by the usual method—absolutely delicious!
For beer lovers, we have a special recommendation: Head to the OKINAWA BREWING CAFE, which is only a 5-minute walk away.
You can hit up this shop to purchase a variety of American craft beer!
We couldn’t resist trying a few ourselves!
Scenery aside, the women were beautiful too…
There was so much to take in: the sea, the sky, islands in the distance, airplanes, and ships. And just as its name suggests, the view of the sunset from Sunset Beach is a particularly sensational sight that shouldn’t be missed.
And that was our early summer beach party in Okinawa!
