Hamburger Steak Made with Exquisite Okinawan Agu Pork at “Okonomi Teppan Noki”
Kitashinchi in Osaka is an area packed with fine dining, but many of the restaurants here offer lunch at affordable prices too. This time, I had lunch at “Okonomi Teppan Noki.”
They offer counter seating, and your food is cooked up on the teppan grill before your eyes. I’ve even heard that you can get hamburger steaks made with Okinawan Agu pork at lunchtime!
The restaurant itself is very tucked away, and if their menu board hadn’t been up outside I would’ve easily walked just by.
I arrived before opening, so I got to be seated first! I sat down in front of the main teppan grill!
The seats around mine filled up in absolutely no time.
Their lunch menu focuses on hamburger steaks, pork loin steaks, and shogayaki (ginger-fried pork), all made with Okinawan Agu pork. They also offer mapo tofu (spicy tofu and minced meat dish) that is cooked on the teppan grill, a dish that has apparently been featured on TV.
You can also get your rice upgraded to a larger portion for free.
I ordered the Agu pork hamburger steak!

It was followed by the other customers’ hamburger steaks too.
You can choose between Japanese-style, demi-glace, and ponzu sauces.
All of the customers who ordered the hamburger steak went with the demi-glace sauce.
The bean sprouts were quickly stir-fried…
They put the tofu on the scorching-hot teppan grill!
The bean paste for the mapo tofu was then put on the grill…
The tofu was quickly mixed into the bean paste…
A few people started coughing here and there at this step.
And the delightfully aromatic mapo tofu was finished!
At this point I’d decided to order the mapo tofu the next time I came by.
The pork loin also looked delicious!
I’d love to try everything on the lunch menu some day!
After the exterior of the hamburger steak was browned, it was finished by steaming.
Between the obvious skill of the chef gauging the state of the cheese and the look of the deliciously melting cheese in front of me, I couldn’t help letting out a sound in my excitement.
The air was filled with the aroma of melty cheese grilling.
The bread was from the bakery “Rare Rich.” Even plain, the bread was super delicious!

You can choose between a fried egg and cheese as your toppings.
I went with cheese this time, and I think it was a great choice!
I didn’t expect them to actually grill the cheese for the topping though! Wow!
The dish also looked great!
The cheese and sauce even started to mix together on the piping hot plate!
When I split open the hamburger steak, it started to overflow with delicious juices!
The meat had a great texture to it, and it almost seemed to get even tastier the more you chewed!
The crisp texture of the bean sprouts was also a great accent to the dish.
The crisp bits of cheese were also spectacular with the hamburger steak!
There was even Agu pork in the miso soup, which had a lovely dashi flavor.
There was even pudding served after my meal!
The smooth, melt-in-your-mouth pudding was really tasty!
From flavor to portions to price, I was super satisfied with everything!
It seems like visiting with friends in the evening for seafood, meat dishes, and okonomiyaki would be really fun.
