How Do I Get to Universal Studios Japan?
You can reach Universal Studios Japan relatively smoothly by using JR trains without having to exit the station. It takes about 30 minutes from Shin-Osaka Station with two transfers, and about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Kansai International Airport with one transfer to reach the nearest station, Universal-city Station. Additionally, there is a limousine bus service from Kansai International Airport, so if you're concerned about transfers, it's a good idea to check the departure times in advance and use the bus.
From Tokyo or Hakata in Fukuoka, you can take the Shinkansen to Shin-Osaka, which takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes, allowing you to reach Universal Studios Japan in just over 3 hours.
Things to Check Before Visiting the Park
To make the most of your time at the park and enjoy it efficiently, it's important to prepare in advance.
First, purchase your tickets ahead of time. You can buy them through the official website's web ticket store. Choose the "Direct-In" option, where you present a QR code either printed out or on your smartphone. This allows you to skip the ticket booth lines and enter the park smoothly, which is highly recommended.
Next, install the Universal Studios Japan official app (free) on your smartphone. The app provides essential information for a comfortable experience in the park, including your current location, attraction locations, eTickets, wait times for attractions and restaurants, and operational status updates.
It's also important to be aware of peak times in advance. Popular seasons for Japanese visitors include spring, summer, and winter holidays, as well as Golden Week, Obon, and Halloween. Outside of these periods, there may be days when the park has shorter operating hours, so be sure to check the actual attractions, parades, and event information for the time of your visit.
Upon entering the park, you can efficiently plan your day by using the official app to get timed entry tickets for popular attractions and keep track of event schedules. This way, even with limited time, you can fully enjoy your experience at the park.
Time to Head to the Park: A 1-Day Model Plan Focused on Exploring Super Nintendo World™
The model plan introduced here focuses on exploring Super Nintendo World™. This plan includes purchasing the Universal Express Pass 4: Fun Variety, which allows you to shorten wait times for attractions such as Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge™, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey™, Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, and Jaws.
Note: The Universal Express Pass with guaranteed area entry may have its ticket types and details changed without prior notice.
A Giant Arch Welcomes You
From JR Universal-city Station, walk about 10 minutes through Universal Citywalk, where you'll find various restaurants and shops. Once you pass through the massive arch modeled after the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the main venue of the Los Angeles Olympics, you'll be entering the park. Since the lines for entry and ticket purchase are separate, if you have pre-purchased tickets, you can proceed directly to the entrance.
Let’s First Explore the Park!
Once you enter the park, get your timed-entry tickets for the attractions through the eTicket section of the official app to navigate more efficiently. After securing your tickets, take some time to explore the park. In the Hollywood area directly in front of the entrance, you'll find a range of shops, including the largest Universal Studios Store. This is a great spot to pick up a headband or costume headpiece to enhance your park experience!
Step Into the World of Games at the One and Only Super Nintendo World™
Passing through the iconic green pipes from the globally beloved Mario game, you'll be greeted by a vibrant, colorful world that feels like stepping right into the game. At the central photo opportunity spot, you can take pictures with Mario and Luigi.
The ride attraction Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge™, which makes full use of AR, projection mapping, and screen projection, has its entrance at Bowser's Castle. Inside the castle, you'll find a variety of exciting elements to enjoy while waiting, including a giant Bowser statue, Bowser’s study, and trophies from the game.
Buy a Power-Up Band to Maximize Your Enjoyment
By purchasing a Power-Up Band with character designs, you can double the fun in the area! There are five key challenges, such as hitting a POW Block to flip over a Koopa Troopa or stopping an alarm by hitting it so as not to wake a sleeping Piranha Plant. Successfully clearing three challenges allows you to take on the final battle with Bowser Jr. on a giant screen.
Even without the band, you can enjoy attractions like Yoshi's Adventure™, where you ride Yoshi and embark on a treasure hunt filled with playful experiences!
Have Lunch at Kinopio's Café™ and Pick Up Some Souvenirs
Let's have lunch at Kinopio's Café™, marked by its mushroom-shaped entrance. Enjoy a wide variety of visually delightful gourmet dishes and sweets, including a hamburger topped with Mario's hat, a hamburger steak inspired by Bowser's shell, and tiramisu shaped like a Question Block.
The café also offers a variety of merchandise, including popular plush toys for kids, fashion accessories such as T-shirts and socks, and character-themed snacks.

Step Into the Magical World of the Wizarding Realm, Where Grand Buildings and Majestic Castles Stand
In 2024, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ celebrates its 10th anniversary. Passing through the Stone Gateway and walking along the tree-lined path, you'll arrive in Hogsmeade™, a village home to wizards. This area, with its majestic buildings, provides a magical experience simply by strolling through it. At the end of the area stands Hogwarts™ Castle, towering on a rocky mountain. Inside the castle, you can enjoy the immersive ride attraction Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey™, which takes you through a 360-degree experience filled with dynamic visuals.
Immerse Yourself in the World of Harry Potter with Butterbeer™ and the Hogwarts™ Express
One of the highlights of this area is Butterbeer™, available at places like Three Broomsticks™. This iconic drink, featured in the films, offers a delicious blend of butter and vanilla flavors. It's a non-alcoholic beverage, making it suitable for children as well.
