Kameari Park is located near the north exit of JR Kameari Station (head straight out, then turn right and you’re there). It’s famous as the park of the same name that acts as a setting in the manga “Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen-mae Hashutujo.” The park is like a mecca for fans of the series, and there are always groups of people taking commemorative photos with the two statues of the series’ protagonist, “Ryo-san.”
One of the statues is a “Double Peace Ryosan,” while the other is a statue of “Hitoyasumi Ryosan” that’s sitting on a bench. Behind the statue of Ryo-san sitting on the bench is a huge signboard. The real Kameari Park is well-integrated with its surroundings, and the monument-like giant slide and other colorful slides create a truly eye-catching park. There are always plenty of children playing at the park and running around excitedly, making it seem very much so like the “Kameari Park” of the manga series.
Furthermore, the park is full of greenery, and at the peak of cherry blossom season in the spring, the Yoshino cherry trees planted throughout the park are in full bloom, creating an absolutely breathtaking scene.

Visiting a spot from the manga feels so surreal.

Kameari Park is super famous and has two statues of Kankichi Ryotsu. One shows him making a peace sign, and the other is a life-size bronze statue on a bench, made to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Kochikame. Tons of people come here just to take photos with Ryo-san—I was one of them too! 😄
