Mt. Senkoji, with an altitude of 144.2 meters, is one of three mountains of Onomichi City. The park is located halfway up the mountain. The cable car provides an easy 3 minute access point from the city, and you can see the entire cityscape of the Japanese Heritage City of Onomichi.
The park is considered one of Japan's 100 best cherry blossom spots, offering breathtaking scenery and an outstanding city view, all while you enjoy the beautiful blossoming trees.
The walking trail “Path of Literature” features 25 natural stones engraved with quotes from authors related to Onomichi. Following this path will take you to Senkoji Park.
Also in the park is the Onomichi City Museum of Art, designed by the world-renowned architect Tadao Ando.

As the cable car slowly rises, you get a full view of the city and the endless Seto Inland Sea. Even though I bought a round-trip ticket, I ended up walking down to really enjoy the laid-back pace of life.

You can drive straight up to the parking lot on the mountain, but there aren't many spaces available. It's a short walk to Senkoji, and you get a great view of Onomichi City. Definitely a spot you shouldn't miss.
