Being said to be the last secluded region of the Oigawa River, the Sumata Gorge is one of the most scenic spots in Shizuoka prefecture. The scenic spot that symbolizes the Sumata Gorge is the Yume no Tsuribashi. Under the suspension bridge, a dam lake formed in the "Oma Dam" of the Sumata River, a tributary river of the Oigawa River, spreads out.

The reason why the water looks blue is due to a physical phenomenon called "Tyndall effect," in which only blue light with short wavelengths is reflected in places with beautiful water quality. Depending on the weather and sunlight, you can see the beautiful emerald green or cobalt blue surface of the lake. If you go further upstream to the Hiryu Bridge, you can look down on the Yume no Tsuribashi suspension bridge below.

In spring, Yamazakura (wild cherry) blossoms, Miyamatsutsuji (a type of azaleas), Akayashio(a type of azaleas, Yamabuki (kerria), and Fuji (wisteria) flowers are seen, and in autumn, it is also known as a famous spot for autumn leaves.

In Sumata Gorge where the Yume no Tsuribashi suspension bridge is located, there is also Sumatakyo Onsen (hot spring) which has long been known as a secluded hot spring village. After enjoying a walk, soak in the hot springs to heal your fatigue.
