Nagomi no Yoneya “Peanut Monaka”
A cute peanut-shaped Monaka. Check out the high-grade yokan as a gift.
Yoneya Co., Ltd. was founded in 1899 (Meiji 32). With the first owner selling yokan (sweet bean jelly) with local Shiba chestnuts as a starting point, the store has produced numerous successful products, mainly Japanese desserts.
Yoneya operates both street and in-store locations throughout Chiba Prefecture. The main store, the chain's flagship, is located on the main approach to Naritasan Shinshoji Temple and is a go-to for souvenirs when visiting the temple. Another highlight is the Yoneya-owned "Narita Yokan Museum," also located on the premises, where visitors can learn about the roots of yokan. Thus, you can enjoy shopping and sightseeing at the same time.
The popular "Peanut Monaka" (150 yen per piece) has won many awards at confectionary fairs and was even recognized as Chiba Prefecture's representative dessert at the Japan Gift Awards. The peanut-shaped middle is filled with a richly flavored bean paste mixed with peanuts and exquisite moist texture. They are also sold individually, but we recommend the cute peanut-shaped boxes of 8, 12 or 16.
Don’t miss the wide selection of delicious yokan. For example, the "Gokujo Ozao Yokan Kuri" (5400 yen) is made with high-quality ingredients such as large chestnuts using traditional methods. Another popular product is the Shio Yokan (1000 yen), only available at limited locations. It has a mild and refreshing taste made with salt from Kujukuri beach.
