Amaterasu Railway
The super cart to let you take in Takachiho nature.
Takachiho Railway, the favorite of tourists, was unfortunately closed in 2005. Now, using those railways, a grand diesel engine super cart is run for tourists. It goes through two tunnels from Takachiho Station to Takachiho Bridge and comes back on its 5.1km round trip at 20km/h for roughly 30minutes.
Takachiho Station still has the nostalgic building from the National Railroad era. There is a display inside about the retro equipment and information, a cafe for a break before/after the ride, and a diesel car from the former Takachiho Railway era, which you can look inside and try running it with a reservation.
The super cart can carry up to 30 passengers and runs 10 times a day. The driver who knows Takachiho Railway in and out will be the guide on your ride. If you are a railroad maniac, you do not want to miss this. They do not take a reservation, but getting your ticket earlier is better, since weekends will be crowded.
