This facility aims to gather traditional crafts around Yame, which is part of Chikugo Region in the southern Fukuoka. It passes on the traditional skills and promotes local industries. Yame Fukushima family Buddhist altar, Yame lantern, Yame handmade Japanese paper, Yame stone lantern, Kurume rice cake and various crafts handed down in Yame Region are displayed. There is a shop in the facility where you can buy these products.

The building was designed after a storehouse in Yame-Fukushima’s white-wall townscape, and it stands on the ground of former National Railway Yabe Line’s Chikugo-Fukushima Station. Interestingly, the remaining railroad track is running through the facility.

Yame handmade Japanese paper has the oldest history and tradition in Kyushu. At the Tesukiwashi Center inside the Kogeikan, you can try your hands on making a postcard, bookmark, or a fan (with a fee).

The adjoining Yame Minzoku Shiryokan (Folk Museum) exhibits folk and traditional culture of Yame Region. Kanko Bussankan (Tourist Goods Store), Tokimeki, is nearby and provides well-known Yame Tea, local liquor, sweets, agricultural processed products, and other local one-of-a-kind goods.
