Omori no Sato

A closed school’s teacher’s residence was renovated into a lodging designed by the Oriental culture researcher Alex Kerr.

Last update :

Climbing up a sharp slope for 5 minutes from Tosenji Onsen, you will reach an obscure village far into the mountains - Totsukawa. Rare in this area, Totsukawa has a small flat space where vegetables are cultivated. Oda Nobunaga’s general, Sakuma Nobumori, has his grave here, along with other historical sites. In August, the national important intangible folk cultural property, Musashi no Oodori (Big Dance) is held.

Omori no Sato is a lodging, renovated from a teacher’s residence of a closed school in Musashi Village. Alex Kerr, an Oriental culture researcher and an expert in restoration of old homes designed and rebuilt it. There are only two guestrooms, Gyozen for two and Yakemine for four guests. Local lumber was used for the restoration, and the sofas and other furnishings are made in Totsukawa. Both rooms have relaxed air with natural wood.

The lodging is maintained by local people and there is no staff. Each room comes with a kitchen and a bathroom for a long stay. There is no store or restaurant in the village and you need to bring in your own food.
