Yosakoi Festival
The Yosakoi Festival is a carnival spreading around the world as "YOSAKOI" and brings excitement to the summer in Kochi!
The Yosakoi Festival is held for four days every year, starting with the eve of the festival on August 9, followed by the main event on August 11 and 12, and the post-evening festival on August 12. It is a major summer event, with approximately 20,000 people from about 190 teams participating at 16 venues, including nine performance halls and seven dance halls in Kochi City. On the 12th, the final day of the festival, a national competition will be held. Teams from all over the country will compete with each other.
The festival is parade-style, with performances moving along Otesuji and other streets and others performed on stage at the Chuo Park. The stage performance of the previous year's award-winning teams on the eve of the festival is a must-see. On the 12th, the second night of the festival, you will be able to see the winning team of the year perform, which is also a must-see.
Each team arranges its music for the Yosakoi Festival, including phrases from "Yosakoi Naruko Odori" (Yosakoi Naruko Dance). The groups are led by their symbolic regional cars, which also play the role of sound. The dancers hold musical instruments called Naruko in their hands and ring them. In contrast, the dancers fascinate the audience with their impressive performance. The unique costumes of each team are also a highlight of the festival. Paid seats for viewing the festival are available, so those who wish to take their time should purchase them in advance.
