Jufukuji Temple (Nagasaki)

Known for its "Sen Toro Matsuri" (Festival of a Thousand Lanterns) held every year on August 23 and 24, featuring a dazzling 22-meter tower adorned with approximately 3,500 lanterns.
Founded in 1582 by Matsura Shigenobu, the former lord of the Hirado Domain, Jufukuji Temple draws numerous visitors during the festival as well as during the fresh green and autumn foliage seasons. The main attraction during these seasons is the "Upside-Down Fresh Greenery" and "Upside-Down Autumn Leaves" event. This unique concept involves placing acrylic panels on the tatami floor of the temple's hall, reflecting the greenery and autumn leaves, creating a picturesque view that resembles a painting.
The temple is open to the public for this special event only for a short period each year: mid-May for the fresh greenery and mid-November for the autumn leaves. Make sure to check the latest information on Nagasaki's tourism website before planning your visit.
