The second largest airport in Hokkaido after New Chitose Airport, it is the gateway to the Donan (southern Hokkaido region).
It serves domestic flights to Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and three other airports in Hokkaido, as well as international flights to Taipei.
The renovation in March 2022 expanded the number of restaurants and souvenir stores. At the same time, a new general information center, "LOCAL INFORMATION GATTURI DONAN," was also reopened.
It has been reborn as a more convenient facility full of Donan's attractions.
The five airport restaurants offer dishes made with Hokkaido ingredients, such as seafood rice bowls and salt ramen noodles. Collaboration menus supervised by a famous Hakodate restaurant and Hokkaido beer drinking sets are also recommended.
The souvenir store is also well-stocked, with one of the largest selections in southern Hokkaido. From famous confections representing Hokkaido and Donan to sake made at Hakodate's sake brewery and dorayaki branded with an airport-specific branding, there are a variety of items that make perfect Hakodate souvenirs.
In addition, there is an "Airport Gallery" that displays Ainu crafts and other materials, and an "Observation Pick-up Deck" that overlooks the runway.
The airport is full of facilities that can be enjoyed by visitors and non-travelers alike.
