Nozawa Onsen has an array of inns and restaurants that offer hot springs and local food. It is a historical resort with legends - some say it was found by Reverend Gyoki in the era of Emperor Shomu (724-748), others say it was found by a mountain priest in training.
One of Nozawa Onsen’s attractions is Sotoyu Meguri - visiting 13 natural hot springs preserved since Edo Period. Each hot spring has particular effects and you can bathe in the ones that you like. Foot baths also dot the town for your day use (public ones are closed during winter and some allow limited use).
Historical and tourist spots in the resort offer stamps, 27 spots in all which you can collect for fun. When you collect more than 10 of them, you are given Yu Towel with Taro Okamoto’s calligraphy who has an episode in Nozawa Onsen. When you go on Sotoyu Meguri, collect Nozawa Onsen stamps while you are learning the history of the hot spring resort.
