The zoo and botanical garden is located on the grounds of Minami Park, a hilly area in Fukuoka City. The zoo area is located in the central part of the park, and the botanical garden area is located in the southern part, both of which can be accessed via an overpass.

The zoo is divided into the North Garden, the South Garden, and the Asian Tropical Valley Area, with the North Garden housing southern white rhinoceros, giraffe, and black bear; the South Garden housing red panda, lion, tiger, and hippo; the Penguin Area, which opened in January 2022; and the Asian Tropical Valley Area housing orangutan, leopard, and Asian small-clawed otter. Approximately 100 species of animals are bred and exhibited. The botanical garden includes a rose garden, a wildflower garden, and a large flower bed, with approximately 1,240 varieties of plants in the large greenhouse and 1,400 others in bloom each season.

The park has an "Animal Information Center ZooLab" where visitors can learn about animals in a fun way, providing information and trivia about animals for an enjoyable tour of the park. Skeletal specimens are also on display, allowing visitors to learn about the mechanisms of animal bodies. Workshops and lectures are also held regularly, so check before you go.
