Yanbaru Dining Matsu no Kominka
Enjoy the exquisite Aguu (Okinawan pig) in shabu-shabu.
A five-minute walk from Nago City Hall, this dining room is open only at night. In a good old 70-year-old Okinawan house, you can enjoy shabu-shabu with a rare species of island black Aguu. Shabu-shabu is generally made with beef, but this restaurant offers a rare breed of Okinawan pig, the "Shimakuru", a purebred crossbreed of Aguu and Aguu. Because the number of offspring is small and they grow slowly and do not grow large, they are highly prized and limited in quantity on a daily basis. It has almost no peculiar taste or odor, and is recommended for women as well.
The signature dish is the "Shimakuro Aguu Goku Shabu Shabu Set”. The main dish, "Shimakuro Aguu", consists of three kinds of meat: shoulder loin, belly, and thigh. The menu also includes a variety of other standard Okinawan dishes such as sea grapes, Okinawan salt pork, Okinawan dish of pig ears, and Island Japanese leek.
The interior of the restaurant, which makes full use of the atmosphere of an old private house, is lined with handmade wooden tables on the tatami floor and decorated with sundries and accessories created by Yanbaru artists. In addition to the Japanese-style rooms, there is also a counter where you can enjoy a meal while sipping on a variety of alcoholic beverages. Shabu-shabu sets can be ordered in quantities of two.
