Philatelic Museum
A massive collection of about 350,000 stamps from Japan and around the world!
The Philatelic Museum is a rare, stamp-focused museum featuring an impressive collection of about 350,000 stamps from Japan and around the world, as well as 15,000 postal items.
On the first floor, themed exhibitions—such as "flowers" or "animals"—rotate every three months, showcasing around 1,000 stamps per theme. Enlarged versions of the stamps are displayed on maps of Japan and the world, making it easy to see each stamp’s country of origin. Special exhibitions are also held in the third-floor gallery. On the second floor, the library houses around 13,000 books and 2,000 magazines and auction catalogs related to stamps and postal history, which are available for public viewing (some materials require a fee).
Every third Sunday of the month, the museum hosts a collage workshop using vintage stamps. With over 100 varieties available, visitors can create their own unique artworks to take home.
The museum shop on the first floor, located in the free admission area, sells stamps from around the world and framed stamps. The souvenir corner inside the paid area features original merchandise and postal goods from various countries. A popular keepsake is the “personalized stamp-style postcard,” which includes your photo styled like a stamp—perfect as a memento of your visit.
