Hop on the cute 50cc scooter “Yamaha Vino” and go on the Yumeshima Kaido coastal road. It connects Yuge Island, Sashima Island, Ikina Island, Iwagi Island, where there is no traffic light or toll and you can ride non-stop. The three cable-stayed bridges to connect the four islands are all white and elegant. Cruising on the bridges feels uplifting as if flying over the dazzling ocean and islands.
The biggest buzz here is the island tour led by Matt from New Zealand (in English and Japanese). He has lived on Yuge Island since 2018 and knows refreshing coastal roads, back alleys to share the life of islanders, and other choice spots from his experiences. While guiding you according to your schedule and likings, he talks with you via the microphone and earphone on the helmet as you enjoy riding around.
In March 2022, a bridge was opened to the Iwagi Island, which is highly recommended to see. At the center of the island, Mt. Sekizen stands 369.8m above sea level. A narrow slope to the top is easier to go up by a scooter rather than a car or bicycle. The observation deck on top offers a grand 360-degree panorama of the blue sky, the ocean, Iyo Islands, white bridges and the fascinating Seto Inland Sea’s islands.
The island is also known for cherry blossoms with 3000 trees blooming in spring.
