Hasegawa Machiko Art Museum

A showcase of art collected by the creator of the classic comic strip Sazae-san.

Last update :

Renowned as the creator of the beloved anime Sazae-san, Hasegawa Machiko lends her name to this museum. Opened in 1985, it houses an impressive collection of fine arts and crafts that Hasegawa, along with her sister Mariko, acquired using the proceeds from popular works like Sazae-san and Ijiwaru Baa-san.

The museum's collection includes 788 pieces: 311 Japanese paintings, 250 Western-style paintings, 195 crafts, and 32 sculptures. Special themed exhibitions featuring selections from this collection are held several times a year.

Across the street, the Hasegawa Machiko Memorial Museum, a branch facility that opened in 2020, can be accessed with the same admission ticket. This hall focuses on Hasegawa's creative works, displaying original drawings and tools she used in her craft. On the first floor, visitors can enjoy coffee served in cups featuring Sazae-san comics, shop for exclusive merchandise, or browse books related to her legacy.
