Hinotonton Zoo (Hamura Zoo)
The town zoo where you can see nearly 70 species of creatures.
It was opened in 1978 as the first zoo run by a town in Japan. In the modest-sized grounds, nearly 70 species of animals are kept. Children love the feeding event and petting corner. Their display style is unique - 10 spots in the “Dowa Land” describe children’s stories. You can see the animals in the displays which reflect fairy tales such as “The crane’s returning favor” or “Puss in the Boots.”
In the entrance area, meerkats, fox lemurs, armadillos, etc. Further inside, reticulated giraffes, zebras, scimitar oryxes, and other popular animals live in the “Savanna Garden.”
In the “Nakayoshi Zoo,” you will get to see donkeys, sheep, and various creatures in different areas such as Capybara Area, Monkey Mountain, or Bird Area. It is small but there is a lot to see.
