Located in Okage Yokocho, the bustling street filled with various dining and souvenir shops near Ise Jingu Shrine, Sushi Kyu has a rich history dating back to the Tenpo era (1830-1844) of the Edo period. The founder, Kyuzo Morita, started the sushi business, which later expanded into a culinary inn. The current establishment was renovated and restored in 1989.

Savvy travelers love Sushi Kyu for the famed “Tekone Sushi”, a long-loved local dish from the Ise-Shima region. Tekone Sushi originated with the fishermen of Shima, who would slice freshly caught bonito thinly, season it with soy sauce, and mix it with rice using their hands, creating a hearty and flavorful meal. Sushi Kyu's Tekone Sushi features thick slices of bonito marinated in sweet and savory soy sauce, generously layered over vinegar rice made from locally grown Koshihikari rice from Misugi.

The retro interior, with its large exposed beams and traditional decor, preserves the nostalgic atmosphere of its days as a culinary inn. The cozy ambiance makes it an ideal place to enjoy a meal. Additionally, on the last day of each month, Sushi Kyu hosts a "Misoka Yose" event, and on the morning of the first day of each month, they serve "Tsuitachi Gayu," a seasonal porridge.
