Hirugami Onsen Village
A vast hot spring village in southern Nagano, Hirugami Onsen offers lush nature, rejuvenating "beauty baths," and Japan's best stargazing experience.
Located in the southern part of Nagano Prefecture in the village of Achi, Hirugami Onsen is a relatively new hot spring discovered in 1973. Its highly alkaline sulfur spring water (pH 9.7) is renowned as one of Japan's top beauty baths. As the largest hot spring area in southern Shinshu, the village is home to numerous inns and hotels, with many offering day-use bathing facilities.
At the heart of the onsen town, the day-use facility Yuttarina Hirugami provides not only soothing baths but also dining options and relaxing spaces for a leisurely experience.
Surrounded by the breathtaking nature of Achi Village, Hirugami is also famous for its stunning night skies. The area has been designated as Japan’s best stargazing spot by the Ministry of the Environment’s nationwide star observation survey, earning its reputation as a celestial haven. Visitors can marvel at the spectacular night sky while soaking in the outdoor baths.
Known as the "Hanamomo no Sato (Peach Blossom Village)," Achi Village is also a floral paradise in spring. From early April to early May, peach blossoms bloom throughout the area. The 40-kilometer stretch of Route 256, connecting Ina Valley and Kiso Valley, is called the Hanamomo Kaido Road, offering a scenic drive lined with vibrant peach trees.
