Yasui Konpiragu
Known as "Yasui no Konpira-san," this shrine is revered for its tremendous benefits in severing unwanted ties and fostering new connections.
Located in Kyoto's Higashiyama district, the shrine venerates Emperor Sutoku, Minamoto no Yorimasa, and the major deity from Kotohira Shrine in Sanuki. It has long been affectionately known as "Yasui no Konpira-san."
The reason for its popularity as a shrine for severing and forming bonds lies in the "Enkiri-Enmusubi" monument within its precincts. This large stone, about 1.5 meters tall and 3 meters wide, resembling an ema, is believed to possess the power to sever bad connections and create good ones. The process involves first worshipping at the main hall, then writing one's wishes on a katashiro, a surrogate talisman, and attaching it to the monument. Visitors crawl through a hole in the monument from front to back to sever bad ties and from back to front to form good ones. Finally, the katashiro is affixed to the monument. The monument, covered with innumerable katashiro, is a testament to its popularity.
