The Nishina Three Lakes consists of Lake Aoki, Lake Nakatsuna, and Lake Kizaki. Lake Aoki, the largest of the three, offers a range of seasonal views, including Oyamazakura in spring and fireflies in early summer. Particularly recommended is autumn, when you can enjoy the stunning view of the lake, autumn leaves, and the three mountains of Hakuba overlapping.

Located south of Lake Aoki, Lake Nakatsuna is famous for its crucian carp fishing. The competition held every June is so popular that fishing enthusiasts gather from all over the country. Also, because it is a small lake, during the season when Oyamazakura is in bloom, tourists come to take pictures of the cherry blossoms reflected on the surface of the lake. Ice fishing for smelt is also held when the entire lake is frozen in winter.

Lake Kizaki, the southernmost of the three, has shallow areas and relatively high water temperatures, making water activities an extra popular draw. Here you’ll find plenty of things to try, like SUP, canoeing, and fishing, and from mid-June to early July, you can catch the water lilies. Enjoy all this and more at the Nishina Three Lakes.
