Kurokawa Onsen Ryokan Sanga
A secluded hot spring inn nestled away in the woods, a distance from the main town of the hidden gem, Kurokawa Onsen.
Kurokawa Onsen is a hot spring district located on the northern side of the active volcano, Mt. Aso, in the Kumamoto prefecture. Up until 2000, this hidden gem of a spring wasn't even featured on local maps. Just a short distance away from the deep mountainous town of Kurokawa Onsen lies Ryokan Sanga, a quiet inn resembling a secret hideaway.
One of Sanga's highlights includes two distinct private spring sources – "Yakushi no Yu" and "Bihada no Yu". Guests can luxuriously indulge in the 100% natural flowing quality waters. These hot springs can be enjoyed in seven different baths, including the men's only open-air bath "Moyai no Yu" open to day-trippers, a women's only open-air bath "Shiki no Yu", a guest-only indoor bath "Yakushi no Yu", and the private "Rokusoku Okeburo".
The guest rooms vary from eight tatami-mat and ten tatami-mat rooms, to two adjoining tatami rooms, rooms with beds, and even rooms with private open-air baths. Surrounded by the chirping of birds and the murmuring of the river, guests can unwind to the natural background music. Additionally, one shouldn't miss the authentic Japanese cuisine made from seasonal ingredients sourced from the local "Oguni Region". The selection of local beers, wines, and natural wines paired with meals is also noteworthy.
With its top-quality hot springs, comfortable guest rooms, and exquisite dishes made from carefully selected ingredients, Ryokan Sanga promises a rejuvenating retreat away from daily stress.
