Known for its pork cutlets with a secret miso sauce, including the famous "Teppan Tonkatsu" and "Waraji Tonkatsu," Yabaton opened a new concept store called "Mukashi no Yabaton" in 2020 near Osu Kannon Temple (Shinpukuji Hoshoin), at the entrance of Osu Kannon-dori Shopping Street. True to its name, this location recreates the original Yabaton of 1947 (Showa 22), with a retro building and a large sign featuring the store's mascot, "Boo-chan."

The menu faithfully reproduces the original offerings from the founding era. The signature "Kushi Katsu," served with miso or sauce, is prepared with a crispier coating, different from the usual Yabaton cutlets. The "Miso Oden" and "Doteni," both simmered in the secret miso sauce, are also exceptional. A variety of side dishes and drinks round out the menu, and the lunch menu offers a wide selection during the day.

Inside, the decor includes Seven Lucky Gods riding a treasure boat and a retro mosaic of Mt. Fuji, reminiscent of a traditional bathhouse. The nostalgic, laid-back atmosphere evokes memories of classic Japanese izakayas, making it an inviting spot for guests of all ages, genders, and nationalities.
