The Nishinomaru Garden, also known as Momijidani, is part of the Kishū Tokugawa family estate and was originally created by Tokugawa Yorinobu, the founder of the Kishū Tokugawa clan, within the Nishinomaru area of Wakayama Castle. Nestled within this picturesque garden, Koshoan is a sukiya-style tea house with a wooden structure and a copper-roofed design. It was donated in 1973 by Konosuke Matsushita, an honorary citizen of Wakayama, to commemorate the restoration of the garden. Its name, "Koshoan," combines the "Ko" (紅, meaning crimson) from Momijidani (Crimson Maple Valley) and "Sho" (松, meaning pine) from Matsushita's name.

The tea house features a ryūrei-style seating area, allowing visitors to enjoy matcha and traditional Japanese sweets while seated at a table, making it accessible even to those unfamiliar with the formal etiquette of tea ceremonies. Throughout the year, the garden offers breathtaking views, from autumn leaves to moss-covered landscapes, accompanied by the tranquil sound of flowing water.

For a more private experience, both the tea room and ryūrei-style seating can be reserved for exclusive use.
