Head Editor : Kouri Ocean Tower

Perched on a hill on Kouri Island, the Kouri Ocean Tower is a striking white structure that contrasts beautifully with the waters below that are so beautifully turquoise they’ve coined specially as “Kouri Blue."

You’ll know the tower when you see it for its design, made to mimic a sailboat with its "sails," and unmissable height at 82 meters above sea level. For sweeping panoramic views, head up to the indoor observation floor on the 2nd and 3rd levels and an open-air ocean deck on the rooftop, where the full splendor of emerald green sea, the long stretch of Kouri Bridge, and picture-perfect views await. The ocean deck gives you the exhilarating feel of standing at the bow of a large ship, while the indoor observation area frames the view like a painting.

The tower is also home to the Shell Museum, displaying over 1,500 species and 10,000 shells from around the world, as well as the Kouri Island Museum, which shares the island’s history. Complete with restaurants, expect views served with freshly fired Neapolitan pizzas made to order, and a shop with a sweets factory. Access to the tower is by an automated cart ride through a lush tropical garden, featuring Okinawa’s signature adan and sago palms. During the ride, an audio guide shares information about the island's history and attractions.
