The Shibuya Blue Cave Illumination, a romantic blue light illumination extending about 800 meters from Shibuya's Park Street to the Zelkova trees of Yoyogi Park, creates a magical atmosphere for the Christmas season. Starting in Nakameguro in 2014 and moving to Shibuya in 2016, excluding the years 2015, 2020, and 2021 when the event was not held, it has been a popular event attracting over 15 million visitors in total.
The event's name is inspired by the famous tourist spot in Capri, Italy, known for its sea cave where the water appears to glow blue. The approximately 600,000 blue lights create a space as enchanting as the actual cave. The venue is a stunning sight, with 67 trees along Shibuya Koen-dori and 60 trees along the Keyaki Namiki in Yoyogi Park, each adorned with 5,000 sparkling bulbs.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the event, and to celebrate, the Yoyogi Park Keyaki Namiki venue will feature a giant illuminated spherical balloon called "Blue Cave – THE SNOW DOME." The balloon displays visuals inspired by a snow dome, adding a magical touch to the Christmas season.
