Kagizen Yoshifusa Shijo Main Branch
A long-established sweet shop in Gion with over 300 years of history.
A long-established dessert shop in Gion, which is said to have been founded during the Kyoho era of the Edo period, over 300 years ago. Its signature sweet is "Kuzukiri," known for its smooth texture and exquisite chewiness. The kudzu, carefully selected from "Morino Yoshino Kuzu Honpo" in Ouda, Nara, is dissolved in water, steamed, cooled in cold water, and then thinly sliced. This simple confectionery allows the natural flavor of the ingredients to shine, resulting in a profound and excellent taste. The refreshing richness of the brown sugar syrup made from Hateruma-grown black sugar further enhances the flavor of the kudzu.
Another specialty is the "Kikuju-to," shaped like chrysanthemum flowers. It is a dried confectionery with a smooth melt-in-your-mouth texture, made using the finest Wasanbon sugar sourced from Tsuchinari-cho, Awa City, Tokushima Prefecture. Since a confectionery mold from the first year of the Genji era (1864), at the end of the Edo period, is still preserved, it has been loved as a long-selling product for at least 150 years.
The calm atmosphere of the shop, adorned with designs that evoke its long history, is also lovely. Relax and enjoy the confections from this long-standing establishment in Gion in a refined space.
