Yunoyama Onsen

With a history spanning 1,300 years, Yunoyama Onsen is a picturesque hot spring town nestled in the natural beauty of Mount Gozaisho.

Last update :

Nestled at the foot of Mount Gozaisho, Yunoyama Onsen is a serene hot spring area rich in natural beauty. The area is dotted with inns and hotels along the banks of the Mitaki River, making it a popular base for exploring the surrounding region. The hot spring's origins date back to 718 during the Nara period, and it is also known as "Shika no Yu" (Deer’s Hot Spring) due to a legend of a deer healing its wounds in the waters.

The alkaline radium hot spring is renowned for its skin-beautifying properties, earning it the nickname "Bijin no Yu" (Hot Spring of Beauty). Visitors can choose from a variety of accommodations, including resort hotels, traditional inns, and cottage-style lodges, catering to different travel preferences. The area is also home to the popular resort complex AQUAIGNIS, which features restaurants produced by famous chefs and pâtissiers, as well as strawberry-picking houses.

At the heart of the hot spring town is the base station of the Gozaisho Ropeway, which takes visitors on a 15-minute gondola ride to the 1,212-meter-high summit station. Along the way, you can enjoy the natural beauty of the mountains through the seasons, from spring flowers and summer greenery to autumn leaves and winter frost.
In addition to the ropeway, the area offers numerous attractions, including parks nestled along the stream and Sangakuji Temple, known for its connections to marriage. Every October, the town comes alive with the Sohei Matsuri, a festival featuring the fiery mikoshi (portable shrines) parading through the hot spring town.
