Kaimondake, located at the southern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula, is a 924-meter active volcano ranked among Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains. The peak towers with a perfectly symmetrical cone shape that’s visible from much of southern Satsuma, earning it the nickname "Satsuma Fuji," as a cherished as a symbol of Ibusuki.

Hiker’s young and old delight in the gentle spiraling trail up the slope, a leisurely 5 km trek to the summit that even casual hikers can finish in about 3 hours. Once at the top you’re in for a jaw-dropping full panorama out over Kagoshima's famous landmarks, including Lake Ikeda, Kirishima, Sakurajima, and Yakushima.

Kaimon Sanroku Fureai Park sits at the mountain’s door step, a spot where you can set up camp, book a log cabin stay, join a soba-making workshop, putter golf, or go for a dip in the seasonal swimming pool. Scenic and photo-ready, expect gorgeous, seasonal blooms like canola fields from late December to early February and sunflowers in the summer, with the majestic Kaimondake as a backdrop.
