Calbee Kappa Ebisen Takoyaki Flavor
A perfect on-the-go snack or souvenir.
Kappa Ebisen is the beloved snack synonymous with “completely irresistible” since it first hit the shelves in 1964. Dig in for a blend of natural shrimp, including kishiebi, saruebi, akaebi, and Hokkoku akaebi used completely, shell and all, for an extra calcium boost. Each bite has a unique, extra-crispy bite due to it being toasted instead of fried.
This long-loved Kappa Ebisen now comes in local flavors from across Japan, including the Osaka specialty, takoyaki flavor, in the Kansai region. With a slightly tangy sauce flavor complemented by red ginger, green seaweed, and bonito flakes, it's a popular souvenir from Kansai.
Available at stores in Kansai International Airport, the Shinkansen concourse at Shin-Osaka Station, and rest stops on highways, be sure to grab some when you see them.

Q
What is the origin of the name "Kappa Ebisen"?
Kappa is a legendary creature that has been familiar to the Japanese since ancient times.
In the Showa 20s (1945-1954), a comic called "Kappa Heaven" by the late Kon Shimizu became popular.
At that time, Calbee, which was making arare (Japanese rice crackers) from wheat flour and selling them, asked Mr. Shimizu to draw a kappa character on the product package, and it was well received by customers as the "Kappa Arare" series.
Since its launch in 1964, the package has featured shrimp as the main character, so there was no picture of a kappa, but the name has remained, and now when you say "Kappa Ebisen", people think of Calbee's snacks!
