Tadamoto Park
Situated on a slight hill, this is Kagoshima's premier cherry blossom viewing spot.
The only location in Kagoshima Prefecture selected as one of the "Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots in Japan," this popular spot offers beautiful views of the city from its hillside location. From late March to early April, approximately 800 cherry trees planted within the park bloom beautifully. During the cherry blossom season, the "Tadamoto Park Sakura Festival Week" is held annually, featuring various stalls. The approximately 2km-long cherry tree-lined path is adorned with lanterns, which are lit up after dark, presenting a different, more elegant atmosphere compared to the daytime.
The park is centered around "Tadamoto Shrine," dedicated to Tadamoto Niirou Musashi no Kami, a samurai of the Shimazu clan who was active during the Sengoku period. The park offers a rich natural environment with a spacious lawn area, a playground for children, an observatory overlooking the city, and walking paths that are enjoyable for leisurely strolls, making it a relaxing place for visitors of all ages. The monument inscribed with a poem by Tadamoto himself, located west of Tadamoto Shrine, is also one of the park's attractions.
