This shrine is notable for its vivid vermilion Suitenmon gate, inspired by the mythical Dragon Palace. It enshrines Emperor Antoku, who tragically perished by drowning at the age of eight following defeat in the Battle of Dan-no-ura. Additionally, the site's predecessor, Amidaji Temple, is famous as the setting for the eerie ghost story Mimi-nashi-Hoichi (Hoichi-the-Earless).

Set perched by the sea, this shrine is known for protecting against water-related accidents and prospering businesses associated with water. Step onto the shrine grounds today to find the Treasure Hall, which displays valuable artifacts including three Important Cultural Properties, as well as the mausoleum of Emperor Antoku, the graves of the Heike clan, and the Hoichi Hall, which houses a statue of Hoichi playing the biwa.

For an added perk, swing by each year from May 2nd to 4th to see the Sentei Festival, held to commemorate Emperor Antoku with the famous "Joro-sanpai" procession taking place on the 3rd. This tradition stems from surviving court ladies visiting the shrine in formal attire, with five lavishly dressed Tayu parading across a red bridge constructed within the shrine grounds.
