Museum of Aeronautical Sciences (Chiba Prefecture)
Japan's first aviation-focused museum in dual flight with learning and fun.
Museum of Aeronautical Sciences sits next door to Narita Airport as Japan's first aviation-focused museum, complete with the full magic of flight launched with your very first step at its runway-designed iconic entrance.
The museum opens up to reveal an enthralling number of corners and exhibits to explore, anything from videos to dioramas and models that transport you into the inner workings of airplanes, airports, and how they go. One of the highlights is the massive Boeing 747 jumbo jet fuselage and engine, not as models but as real, full-scale sections. The intricate internal structure is available for an up-close look and feel that both aviation enthusiasts and casual visitors alike are sure to love. In the outdoor exhibition area, more than 15 aircraft from the 1950s and 60s, including propeller planes and helicopters, are on display. There's also a viewing space where you can experience the thrill of watching planes take off and land at Narita Airport, accompanied by the roar of their engines.
Swing by for all the immersive experiences that await including flight simulators that recreate the look and feel of getting behind the wheel as a pilot, as well as boarding some of the aircraft in the outdoor exhibition area (some activities require additional fees). After exploring the museum, be sure to stop by the 4th-floor observation restaurant for a meal inspired by in-flight food, or browse the gift shop for aviation-themed souvenirs.
