Kyoto Ceramic Center

Nestled at the foot of the famous Kiyomizu Temple, in the Higashiyama Gojo area, lies a district known for its traditional craft, "Kyo-yaki" and "Kiyomizu-yaki" pottery. For over 400 years, countless ceramic works have been created here. Many artisans and kilns still operate in the Gojozaka area, and at the entrance to this historic slope is the Kyoto Ceramic Center.

This facility, originally known as "Kururu Gojozaka," was renovated and reopened in 2012 to promote and showcase "Kyo-yaki" and "Kiyomizu-yaki." The glass-walled building is designed to illuminate and highlight the pottery, creating a pleasant viewing experience.

On the first floor, visitors can explore a shop featuring a wide array of works by Kyoto-based artisans and kilns. The shop includes special exhibition corners and live demonstration spaces. The displayed works range from delicately painted pieces to modern designs that fit seamlessly into everyday life, as well as translucent celadon and porcelain, and avant-garde objects, all available for purchase.
The second floor houses a gallery where individual and group exhibitions by artisans and kilns, as well as association-organized shows, are held, with displays changing every two weeks. The gallery also hosts exhibitions by ceramic artists from various regions, offering a close-up view of diverse works.
