Swing by Sagamiwara Asamizo Park to find a completely free-to-enter, local escape loved by the locals for its wide range of things to do across the grounds. It sits complete with a pedestrian bridge to Sagamihara Prefectural Park next door, making it easy to go to and fro.

You’ll know you’re here by the iconic, 55-meter-tall observation tower, Green Tower Sagamihara. Up at the top you’ll find swooping, 360-degree views on a clear da from the observation 38 meters above ground, seeing out as far as Tokyo Skytree, Tama Hills, Mt. Tanzawa, and the cityscapes of Yokohama and Shonan in the distance. The park also has plenty for children, including a field athletic course nestled in the trees, the Animal Plaza for a chance to try feeding their furry friends, plus pony rides, and large, colorful playground equipment.

Many know this park as the host of the National Urban Greening Fair in the past. Today you can still find the area replete with large flower beds and tree groves, plus vibrant seasonal flowers and lush greenery year-round. The park usually makes the rounds for its clematis blooms in spring and hydrangeas in early summer, which are considered some of the best in the region.

(2) From Odakyu Line Sagami-Ono Station, take the Kanagawa Chuo Kotsu bus bound for Joshibi University of Art and Design for 18 minutes, get off at "Sogo Taiikukan-mae" bus stop, and walk 2 minutes.
