Hagi Sightseeing Boat
Explore the historic town of Hagi, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, from the water.
The town of Hagi preserves much of its historic charm, with streets and landmarks that remain largely unchanged from the past. This sightseeing boat tour offers a unique way to explore this heritage-rich town from the water. Nestled between two rivers, Hagi is known as a "water city," providing picturesque views from the boat.
The 40-minute journey begins at Shigetsu Bridge, next to the Hagi Castle Ruins. The boat passes through the Hagi Castle Town, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, and the Horiuchi Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. As the tour enters the Hashimoto River, it reveals the scenic Heian-kō Preservation District, featuring elegant white-walled structures and Tokiwajima Island. The boat then makes a U-turn past the Old Tanaka Villa before heading toward Tamae, one of Hagi’s eight scenic views, before returning to the starting point.
On clear days, the journey extends to the sea, offering breathtaking views of Kikugahama Beach and the Hagi Rokushima Islands, which were formed by volcanic activity. Guided by the boatman’s narration, passengers can enjoy spectacular sights that can only be appreciated from the water.
Seasonal tours are also available, including the spring cherry blossom cruise, summer sunset cruise, and autumn cherry-red foliage cruise, allowing visitors to experience Hagi’s beauty throughout the year.
