Yuhidai (Sunset Hill)

One of Shiretoko’s most iconic scenic spots and part of the "Shiretoko Eight Views," Yuhidai is located on the seaside of the Shiretoko National Campground. As its name suggests, it is renowned for its spectacular sunsets. Witness the breathtaking sight of the vast Sea of Okhotsk glowing red under the setting sun. The sky transitions into twilight, casting a crimson reflection on the water's surface, and the magic hour that follows offers an ever-changing palette of colors in the sky and clouds—a natural show that never ceases to amaze.

From spring to autumn, the sunset creates crimson streaks across the ocean, while in winter, the sea covered with drift ice is bathed in golden hues by the setting sun. The panoramic view of the Sea of Okhotsk and Utoro Port offers stunning scenery, whether during the vibrant blue skies of the day or the serene beauty of dusk.

Located about a 15-minute walk from the tourist hotel district, it’s an easy and worthwhile destination when visiting Utoro.
