Cape Erimo

Impeccable scenery and gusty gales unfold at the southernmost tip of Hokkaido.

Cape Erimo, located at the southernmost point of Hokkaido, marks the end of the 150 km-long Hidaka Mountain Range, often referred to as the "backbone of Hokkaido”. Designated as part of Japan's scenic "Pirika Noka”, a site rich in Ainu culture, legends, and natural beauty, pin this spot for stunning vistas and rugged landscapes.

The cape stretches and buckles with 60-meter-high cliffs that jut into the Pacific towards a 2-kilometer stretch across the coast. Famed as one of Japan's windiest spots, steel yourself for racing winds of up to 25 m/s at the "Kaze no Yakata" Wind Pavillion perched up the cape.

The observation deck offers scenes in full drama and, on clear days, the chance to glimpse Spotted Seals, a near-threatened species. Cape Erimo also features two song monuments for the famous songs "Erimo Misaki”, sung by Shinichi Mori and Chiyoko Shimakura, as well as a poem monument by the Emperor Emeritus of Japan.

The iconic white lighthouse, selected as one of the "Top 50 Lighthouses in Japan”, is a buzz-worthy photo spot that’s available to the public.
