Takeda Shingen Statue

Takeda Shingen was one of the most prominent warlords of the Sengoku period and an essential figure in Japanese history. As the ruler of Kai Province (modern-day Yamanashi Prefecture), he left behind numerous legends and anecdotes still beloved this day. The statue was erected in 1969, reflecting the deep admiration of the local citizens for Shingen's achievements. Since then, it has long remained a cherished as a city landmark, with an annual cleaning taking place every December.
The statue depicts Shingen in the midst of the famous Battle of Kawanakajima, where he faced his lifelong rival, Uesugi Kenshin. Seated in a commanding stance with war fan in one hand and prayer beads in the other, the statue exudes an unwavering imminence. Standing at an impressive 6.2 meters tall, including the pedestal, its sheer size is sure to impress as you draw near.
In spring, cherry blossoms bloom on both sides of the statue, making it a perfect spot for capturing breathtaking photos alongside the dignified figure of Takeda Shingen. Located right in front of Kofu Station, it is a must-visit spot for a commemorative photo upon arriving in the city.
