Located in the northern settlement of Miyama Town, a coveted destination where idyllic thatched-roof houses remain, the Miyama Folk Museum showcases the former lifestyle of the area and the story behind hits designation as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.

The museum is spread across three different areas, a thatched-roof main house, a barn, and a warehouse. This intriguing destination was first opened in 1993 inside a two-century old farm, but was moved after the main house and barn were destroyed by fire in 2000. Visitors today will find the museum inside buildings meticulously reconstructed based on detailed records, faithfully recreating the original ambiance using reclaimed materials. Step inside to find over 200 precious artifacts including daily tools, farming equipment, and old documents donated by local families that offer a glimpse into the old farm life of a bygone village.

While reconstructed, this museum is the own spot among the 40-different thatched-roof buildings in Miyami Kabuki no Sato that allows visitors to tour side. Step in for this rare chance to feast your eyes on the unique architecture, roof and attic area up close.
