Kaike Onsen
A seaside hot spring resort where you can also enjoy swimming at a white-sand, pine-lined beach.
Located along the coast of Yumigahama facing the Sea of Japan, Kaike Onsen is a seaside hot spring resort just about 15 minutes by car from central Yonago. The hot spring water, drawn from beneath Miho Bay, is a sodium-calcium chloride spring—commonly referred to as "salt water"—known for its high salinity and excellent heat retention. It's also celebrated as one of the San’in region’s top “beauty baths” for its skin-smoothing effects.
The onsen town is dotted with inns and hotels, each offering its own unique charm—some feature open-air baths with views of the Sea of Japan or Mount Daisen, while others serve exquisite meals showcasing the bounty of Tottori's mountains and seas. The coastline, lined with small bowl-shaped bays, is known for its calm waters and was selected as one of Japan’s Top 88 Swimming Beaches. In summer, it becomes a lively and safe spot for beachgoers. Many seaside inns even allow guests to head straight to the beach in their swimsuits.
The area also offers rental bicycles, and the coastal cycling routes provide a refreshing ride with scenic ocean views.
Kaike Onsen is conveniently located within 30 minutes by car from Yonago Airport, JR Yonago Station, Yonago IC, and even Sakaiminato—famous as the “town of yokai” (Japanese folklore spirits)—making it an excellent base for sightseeing around the region.
