Noboribetsu Bear Park
A popular mountaintop spot where you can encounter unique brown bears in a breathtaking natural setting.
Located at an altitude of 550 meters on the summit of Shihorei Mountain, Noboribetsu Bear Park is accessible via a 7-minute ropeway ride from the foothill station in Noboribetsu Onsen Town. Over 60 lively brown bears reside here.
The bears are exhibited separately by gender. In the First Bear Enclosure, which houses the male bears, visitors can observe them up close from a glass-walled room called the "Human Cage," where bears roam around just outside, offering an impressive and thrilling view. Visitors can also feed the adult bears in both the First and Second Bear Enclosures. The park features entertaining attractions such as the Bear Athletic Show, which showcases the bears’ balance and dexterity, and the Duck Race, where visitors can predict the winning duck as they swim.
The park also includes a museum dedicated to brown bears, an Ainu culture exhibition, a café, and gift shops located at both the ropeway’s foothill station and inside the bear museum, offering exclusive Bear Park merchandise. From the rooftop observatory of the museum, visitors can admire the perfectly round Lake Kuttara and the vast surrounding natural scenery—an unforgettable sight.
