Founded in 1904 by philosopher and Toyo University founder Enryo Inoue, Tetsugakudo Park in Tokyo’s Nakano Ward is a one-of-a-kind destination designed as a place for spiritual cultivation. Scattered throughout the grounds are structures and monuments that visually express philosophical ideas.

One of the highlights is the “Shiseido Hall,” which enshrines four of Inoue’s greatest influences—Confucius, Buddha, Socrates, and Kant. You’ll also find the “Rokken-dai,” dedicated to six great Eastern sages, and the “Mujinzō” hall, which houses Inoue’s personal collection of artifacts. The park’s standout “Philosopher’s Garden” features statues of global philosophers and spiritual leaders arranged in concentric circles, as if in deep conversation.
Tetsugakudo is full of unique touches—bridges, ponds, and hills named after philosophical concepts, creating an immersive intellectual experience.

Surrounded by lush nature, the park was designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty in 2020. It’s a popular local spot for walking and jogging, and during spring, the cherry blossoms are particularly stunning, especially where they connect with the famous sakura-lined Nakano Street.
The spacious grounds also include facilities like baseball fields, tennis courts, and even a traditional Japanese archery range, making it a serene yet dynamic public space for both relaxation and reflection.
