A historic onsen ryokan in Nozawa Onsen, one of Japan’s most renowned hot spring destinations with over 700 years of history. Originally founded as a sake brewery during the Edo period, Ryokan Sakaya has been run by the same family for 18 generations.

The ryokan boasts its own naturally sourced hot spring, ensuring the mineral-rich waters remain undiluted by adjusting the temperature without adding water. The men’s large bath, "Taka no Yu," is a traditional wooden bathhouse crafted by master carpenters, creating a dimly lit, atmospheric space perfect for relaxation. The women’s bath, "Tsuki no Yu," also features a warm wooden ambiance, offering three different soaking temperatures—hot, warm, and shallow. Both baths include an open-air rotenburo, where guests can immerse themselves in the famous “beauty-enhancing” onsen water.

Accommodations range from classic tatami-mat Japanese rooms to Japanese-Western hybrid rooms with beds. For larger groups, the ryokan also offers a condominium-style annex.

Guests can savor seasonal cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients and explore Nozawa Onsen’s charming streets while visiting its 13 public baths.
