San Shokuhin “Okinawa Beer Nuts”
A classic Okinawan souvenir made with beer yeast—perfect for snacking with a cold brew.
Okinawa Beer Nuts are a beloved local snack and a classic souvenir made using nutrient-rich beer yeast. In 1998, San Shokuhin began developing the product in collaboration with Okinawa’s iconic beer company, Orion Beer, with the goal of putting beer yeast to good use. After much trial and error, the snack was officially launched in 1999—coating peanuts with a crispy shell mixed with beer yeast.
The product gained popularity around 2010, thanks to sample tastings offered at Orion’s beer factory, Orion Happy Park. Since then, it has become a favorite among tourists visiting Okinawa. There are three flavorful varieties: Taco Chili Pepper, Turmeric Curry, and Almond Cheese—each offering a satisfying crunch and a spicy kick that pairs perfectly with beer.
Widely available at airport shops, souvenir stores, supermarkets, and convenience stores, Okinawa Beer Nuts are easy to find. They also come in individually wrapped portions, making them a great choice for small gifts to friends, coworkers, or travel companions.
