Grand opening in January 2025, Ginza Sony Park is a unique urban park in the heart of Tokyo’s Ginza district. Originally the site of the Sony Building, which was built by Sony co-founder Akio Morita and closed in 2017, this experimental project transformed the space into a temporary open park during the demolition phase (August 2018 – September 2021). Over 8.54 million visitors explored the site during this period. In its final phase, reconstruction was completed, culminating in the new Ginza Sony Park in 2025.

Step inside to find five above-ground floors and four basement levels, with the fourth basement level designated for mechanical facilities. Designed to embody the concept of an "urban park”, the structure stands at about half the height of a typical building in Ginza. By intentionally keeping the height low, it creates a sense of openness and introduces new spatial elements to the densely built-up landscape of Ginza, offering a refreshing and expansive atmosphere amidst the city’s tightly packed surroundings.

The design philosophy of the former Sony Building, which emphasized an "open-to-the-city" concept, along with unique architectural elements such as "junction architecture" and the "vertical promenade," has been carried over into this new facility. Instead of housing permanent retail stores, the space is designed to feature dynamic and ever-changing activities on each floor, meaning there’s always something new to explore with each visit.

The open-air atrium on the ground floor, along with various open spaces throughout the facility, provides visitors with areas to freely explore, relax, and unwind, truly embodying the concept of an urban park within Ginza. Additionally, the third basement level is dedicated to Casual Dining, a floor designed to offer unique culinary experiences and new ways to engage with food.

Much like Sony’s groundbreaking products such as the Walkman, PlayStation, and AIBO, Ginza Sony Park is a bold new concept in public spaces, redefining what an urban park can be.
