“Mikatagoko” in Fukui prefecture. Spectacular views of 5 lakes
Tourist spot: “Mikatagoko” which literally means five lakes of Mikata.
Recently I visited “Mikatagoko”, a place I’ve been longing to visit for a long time.
“Mikatagoko” consists of 5 individual lakes located in a valley surrounded by hills.
The 5 lakes are called Mikatako, Suigetsuko, Sugako, Kugushiko, Hirugako . They create dramatic views.

Getting the most out of your visit to “Mikatagoko”
1.The Rainbow Line
Drive the scenic rainbow line which is about 11.2 km. The scenery of the 5 lakes depends on the seasons in Japan but the views are always dynamic and breath taking. You can get to the “ Baijyoudake peak park” by taking the Rainbow line.
2. “ Baijyodake peak park”
From “ Baijyoudake peak park”, you can approach the top of the mountain using either the chair lift or cable car.
2-1 Look out
The look out located at “Baijyoudake peak park” offers you a grand view of Mikata Goko and Wakasa bay.
2-2 Lover’s sanctuary
There is certain organization in Japan that certify “Lover’s sanctuary spot, and this place is one of them.
Many couples love to visit the Lover’s sanctuary and pray for their everlasting love.
The park sells padlocks and it's said that if you lock it on the chain fence at the park together, you will be forever in love with your mate. (¥400 and sold unattended)
2-3 The gong of friendship
At the top of the “Baijyoudake peak park”, you will see a gong at “wagou shrine”. The gong is called “ the gong of friendship”. There are 2 different sounds which come from the gong when you touch. It’s been said that the sounds of the gong will bring you “blessings “ and “ happiness“.
3.The view on the lake
There is a jet boat cruise available where you can visit all of the lakes except for Hirugako lake. The cruise starts from Kugushiko. There is also a Mikatagoko “lake cruise” operating which starts from Suigetsuko. The surrounding view from the lake is something else. You will not regret taking a cruise on the lakes.
